Green Eco-friendly Bonfire Tips ~
March 9, 2010Filed in Bonfire safety, Eco-Friendly, Nature Lovers | 1 Comment »
We love to get outdoors and enjoy every bit of nature that surrounds us.
So it seems only fitting that we respect it and do our best to act responsibly while enjoying it.
Fire is essential, primal and natural to Humankind. Campfires and Bonfires go hand in hand with our ideas of living it up outdoors. Simple and earthy enjoyments wouldn’t be the same without campfires to heat our food or bonfires to warm us.
At Bonfire Central, we’re being mindful of protecting what we love by making smart choices and passing on healthy reminders for limiting environmental impact. We hope the following information will be helpful with your Green ambitions! Please pass it on.
There are some important things to think about the next time you light a fire, good ideas and also some common sense:
- Limit gases and toxins in the smoke by burning only clean lawn and yard waste: untreated wood, dry branches and garden brush.
- Use what you can from nature’s waste. When in the wilderness take only broken branches or dead vegetation from the ground, avoid cutting firewood from living trees and plants.
- Do not burn oils, household garbage, plastics, rubber and aerosol cans or anything containing paint, foam or chemicals.
- Keep fire as far away as possible from wildlife habitats and animal homes. Keep outside pets a safe distance from fire.
- Make your fire only as big as you need it.
- Follow the rules set by your County, State or National Park or Forest: Get a permit if necessary and be aware of wildfire hazards and safety precautions.
- Enjoy our nature and be mindful of protecting it!
Spring fever is setting in and we’re ready to make it contagious! You’ve got to be just as anxious as we are! We just can’t wait for the snow to melt one final time. We’re waiting for the sun to warm us, so we can shed our winter layers and wiggle a little more. We want to be free to breath fresh air and bask in the sunlight again.
Spring fever can also be known as “cabin fever”. This is the time when cabin fever has a double meaning. The excitement for a open air cabin retreat becomes an insatiable idea. The cure of course is 75 degrees and sunny! Until then, the restless tickle will have to be subdued by preparations for the exciting change of season. Make plans to open up the cabin or rent a cabin with the intention of fabulous family spring and summer fun! Just think of it… the open windows, fresh scent of rain, and swimsuit weather! Remember fishing on the boat, sand castles, catching frogs, cool grass between your toes, and late night bonfires are soon to come!
Make plans, Mark your calenders, Organize your thoughts and make this year’s Spring break productive and constructive. If you’re so lucky, go shopping to ease your antsy excitement! Great Patio furniture and decorative bonfire pits are showing up in stores now…and as always our bonfire tool (the HoeJoe) is a wonderful addition to your Summer plans. Find a retail location near you that carries the HoeJoe, along with other great hardware tools to prep the Cabin for warmer days ahead.

A Winter bonfire is a bright idea!
Maybe you think it’s odd to have a bonfire in the middle of winter.
Who would want to freeze outside, right?
Actually it’s quite common and here are some reasons why.
Winter Bonfires keep Holiday parties socially interesting.- Bonfire games and big conversations.
- Earlier bonfire parties, it gets dark early!
- Less risk of spreading forest or grass fires
- Star gazing… bright Winter stars are amazing.
- Watch ice melt and sizzle on the fire
- Snow comes in handy to tame the bonfire.
- Fresh & exciting outdoors vs. stuffy & dull indoors.
- With warm clothing it’s toasty warm!
- Do it yourself Snacks of S’mores and Weenies.
- Hot drinks such as Cocoa and Cider hit the spot outside.
- Nice addition to wintertime hot tub parties.
- If some guests get restless, building snow forts and snowmen is quite fun and enchanting by the light of a bonfire.
- NO BUGS!

Gift Idea for Winter Survivalists

Survive the cold with a gift for the season!
It’s so very cold outside! For Minnesotans and Northern State dwellers, keeping warm is a big priority. Still, the cold doesn’t stop everyone from getting outside. Outdoor activities are abundant in our winter wonderland! We celebrate our snow flurries with snowmen, ice sculptures, ice-skating, and sledding with the kids. Outdoorsy type people still enjoy winter camping and cabin retreats, putting their survival skills to the test. After freezing their tushes off, a nice hot cup of cocoa would be idyllic… and getting warm near a bonfire or fireplace is preferred. There is a practical gift for the Winter survivalists who appreciate warmth and the finer things of convenience. The HoeJoe Jr. makes a great winter gift. Like a remote control to a couch potato, the Hoe Joe Jr. just helps with the relaxation of flipping channels logs in the cabin fireplace or bonfire in the woods. Getting warm never felt so good in these frigid temperatures. Find more information about the HoeJoe at www.bonfirecentral.com. See it in action along with testimonials in this HoeJoe video.
Keep Warm and Happy Holidays!
